Hula Makes You Happy

Back Stage
Preparation for this year's Ho'ike began the day after last year's show. Honing skills; learning new dances; growing from a mixed recorded-live music show to live music only with our own band; making new costumes; creating a lending library of Hawaiian books and videos; adding on-line video dance instruction; and new audio equipment and people are just a few of the ways Hula Mai has grown and matured in the last year.

What the public and our audience see is the set-up for the show in the plaza the day of the show. While it may appear this is what it takes to present our show, the people of Hula Mai know this is only the culmination a a year's very hard work.

Nowhere and at no time is the pre-show anticipation and apprehension greater than just before the show in the changing tent. It is here that the depth and meaning of the Hula Sisterhood is strongest; it is here the deepest bonding takes place.

Please join us in the Ho'ike set-up and show, and the final pre-show moments with the Sisterhood in the following two slideshows.

Aloha, and on with the show!
