Ka Wa‵a rehearses just
about every Thursday at Craig's and Betty Ann's hale. Folks arrive by
1:30 and quickly the place is cookin' with great live Hawaiian music and
the fabulous Hula Mai dancers. The whole scene can only be described
with one word - Ka Wa‵a!
Gary Sugiyama drives his uke and belts out vocals, Jerry Wagner bends his steel guitar
like it was rubber, Clay Wilson's fingers dance on his uke, Karen Wagner pilots both four and eight string ukes,
Grant Bodwell drives his acoustic guitar and adds vocals, and Linda
Green points the way with either her stand-up bass or her bass ukulele,
depending on how the mood strikes her. Grace Nelson fills in vocal duty
along with Mark Tuel, and Beth Heine and Minta Giomi bend their tonsils
when they aren't on stage shakin' a grass skirt. Betty Ann is at the
helm with her ipu-heki, uke, and strong, traditional chanting voice.
